Assault charge dropped
Prosecutor's wife makes request
A charge of simple assault against a federal prosecutor was withdrawn during a brief hearing before Mt. Lebanon District Justice William J. Ivill III.
Wendy Held Burke, the estranged wife of Assistant U.S. Attorney Almon S. Burke Jr., asked that that the charge against her husband be withdrawn.
Wendy Burke, who sued her husband for divorce in May, told Bethel Park police that he assaulted her in the couple's Pattterson Road home. Bethel Park police arrested Almon S.. Burke Jr., 35, at the couple's home May 8.
U.S. Attorney Frederick W. Thieman said yesterday that he would take the dismissal into account when considering whether "further review of the matter is necessary."
When the charge was filed, Thieman said Burke might face discipline action, depending on the outcome of the case.
